College Station, Texas - November 8, 2004 - The International Graduate Student
Association (IGSA) hosted a Fall Diversity Week event that started Monday (Nov. 8). The week featured a wide variety of events including role-play, debates covering different
aspects of diversity. The week was kicked-off at 5:30 p.m. Monday at Evans Library with a keynote address on "Celebrating Diversity" by Jitendra Jain, CEO of Ethnopia Inc. The
week was co-sponsored by the Texas A&M Libraries.
The presentation covered various topics including immigration trends, the need and cultural implications of diversity, the process of cross-assimilation, and the benefits of cultural awareness in managing diversity better. "The Texas A&M University has always been at
the leading edge of supporting diversity, and initiatives involving the collaboration of the industry and educational institutions will further encourage multiculturalism," said Jitendra
Jain. Jitendra also emphasized the need for avenues and platforms that provide an
enjoyable participative environment to increase cultural awareness in a subtle manner.
“I am very happy with the large diverse turn-out at this event, which is truly reflective of the diversity at the Texas A&M University," said Shreyas Kumar, VP Diversity of IGSA.“ It
is great to see the industry taking an active role in supporting diversity.” added Shreyas.
The evocative presentation sparked the group into an enriching discussion on various topics like the perpetuation of stereotypical images of cultures, the pros and cons of globalization,
the convergence of education and entertainment, the benefits of cultural awareness to a common citizen and how Cosmofest facilitates this exposure, and why and how cross
cultural experiences help in keeping jobs in this age of diversity. Finally the IGSA felicitated Jitendra Jain with IGSA mementos.
